About Damon House

Damon House is a CARF-accredited holistic and client centered long term care rehabilitation program located in central New Jersey and serving individuals addicted to alcohol and drugs within a safe and healthy living environment.

Our Philosophy

The ability to conquer and succeed is within the reach of every man and woman. No man is created without the power to help himself. We all have hidden potentials and talents and if they are not evident it is because we fail to probe within ourselves to discover them. We must acknowledge and bring forth our inexhaustible potentials for without this acknowledgment we will never be able to attain a full understanding of our true capabilities.

The forbidden fruit of destruction has influenced and poisoned our mind until we no longer exercise our power of a thinking being. We have lost all values in life and ourselves. With effort and genuine determination we can discover an antidote for the poisoned and corrupt patten of thinking which influenced us to go astray.

We must and will learn to condition ourselves to face the inevitable responsibilities of reality. It is a natural gift for every man to be the molder and maker of this future. It is the power of choice to be whatever we limit ourselves to be.

If we fail it will be done while we are trying to succeed. We must begin to view our failures as i they were “stepping stones” rather than “stumbling blocks.” This isn’t just a mere obstacle or a new challenge. It is our final chance to be what we were meant to be: responsible and productive individuals we have suppressed for such a long time. With every ounce of determination we must say within ourselves: “I can and will succeed!”

Our Mission

Damon House, Inc. is a private non-profit social service agency with a threefold mission.

  1. We are dedicated toward the rehabilitation for those suffering with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric illnesses.

  2. Damon House was formed to encourage people with substance use disorders to seek treatment and to aid them in independent living.

  3. We enhance public awareness of the nature and effects of the illicit use of drugs and to stimulate public interest in the benefits of treatment and re-socialization

Our History

Damon House was incorporated in 1971 as a non-profit organization providing long-term residential and outpatient treatment and recovery programs designed to transform lives, families, and communities. The programs are licensed under the Department of Health and are in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Damon House developed a cooperative and long-lasting partnership with the City of New Brunswick. It has been this partnership that has allowed the agency to continue to give back to the community through its efforts.

It was named after the famous Greek myth of Damon and Pythias which illustrates the Pythagorean ideal of friendship. For over 40-years, Damon House has been a beacon of hope, reinvention, and transformation for thousands of clients and families impacted by substance use disorders and drug dependence. The motivation behind its integrative programs and value system is captured in these words: The ability to conquer and succeed is within the reach of every man and woman. No man or woman is created without the power to help themselves.

Damon House has been a leader and passionate advocate for evidence-based treatment and recovery programs in response to a nation and statewide public health crisis. Over the past five years alone, Damon House has helped to provide a road to recovery to approximately 1000 “clients”; many of them coming through the drug court process. Since 1971, clients of every race, religion, and socio-economic status have come through the program and been given the support to get their lives back on track.
